RESTORATION OF A PAINTING BY PIETRO TORRINI

Restoration of an oil painting on canvas by the Italian painter Pietro Torrini (Florence 1852–1920), signed in the lower left corner.

A popular scene, “Visit to the Newborn,” which highlights the social class differences of the late 19th century, circa 1880.

The restoration of the painting involved cleaning the old, deteriorated, and yellowed varnish. Some small areas of paint loss were filled and retouched. Finally, a new, transparent protective varnish was applied.

Cleaning test.

Restoration complete.
